Loanee Grant netted twice - his second a sensational strike from close to 30 yards - to send Rovers on their way to a 3-1 win at the Abbey Stadium.

The 20-year-old said he will take any side in the third round - except his beloved Everton.

“I don’t want that,” he said with a grin.

“I don’t think I’d be allowed to play but I don’t want that.

“We take whoever we get. If we get a big one, we get a big one.

“We just want to progress.

“I wouldn’t mind Liverpool but I’ll take any game.”

Grant’s second goal will almost certainly be featured on highlight packages of the second round. He struck first time from distance, looping the ball over Cambridge keeper Sam Beasant and in off the far post.

This came after the midfielder had spoken of the magic of the FA Cup in midweek.

He said: “At the moment it has not really sunk in to have scored but I’m sure it will over the next few days.

“It’s something I feel I can do and it’s something I see myself doing in the future.

“It was right up there with the best I’ve scored. I just need to produce more of it.

“I was pleased with the two goals. The keeper should maybe have saved the first one but I was definitely pleased with the second.

“But I’m more pleased to get through to the third round.

“We needed a reaction after the first half because we were not good enough. We got that reaction and then the momentum swung.”
