Stoppage time goals from Cameron Stewart and Andy Williams - after the visitors went 2-1 up in the 90th minute - saw Rovers extend their latest unbeaten run to four games.

“The reaction of the bench when we scored the winner was great to see,” said Ferguson.

“As a manager it was fantastic to see that because I’ve got players who are not starting the game and their reaction is exactly the same.

“They’re in a good place at the moment. We’ve got a really good team spirit and that carries you a long way.

“Those are the best kind of wins,” he added.

“Everyone who saw that will be talking about it tonight. The last minute wins are the best ones.

“Credit to the players because that’s three games in a row they’ve come back.

“I keep repeating myself but I’m not going to apologise for that. They’re a really good bunch to work with. And I don’t think we’re anywhere near where we can possibly get to. I think there’s loads we can improve.”

Conor Grant had earlier cancelled out Marcus Haber’s opener for Crewe against the run of play.

“The team have got that real determination to win games of football,” said Ferguson.

“I think it would have been a travesty it we’d have lost that. I thought we were really good at times.

“It was a different sort of challenge for us because we had a lot of possession and it was a case of breaking them down. We had some really good opportunities and then of course we went behind.

“We were knocking on the door in the second half and credit to Crewe for sticking in there.

“It would have been a real blow to lose the game like that but Cammy and Andy came up with the goods.”
