Paul Keegan says the Rovers squad always expected they would be embroiled in a battle at the bottom of the table.
But the Irish midfielder admits there is plenty of disappointment they have not fought their way out of it sooner.
Rovers headed into the congested Easter weekend looking for the victory which is highly likely to be enough to secure their Championship tenure for another season.
Three successive defeats plus important points for the teams in the bottom three saw Rovers’ safety cushion deflated and nerves begin to jangle once again.
“I don’t think any one of us have been surprised by this,” Keegan said.
