Federico Macheda is one of several potential loan deals Paul Dickov is looking into, writes Hayley Paterson.
The Italian made a sparkling impact for Rovers since his loan move from Manchester United, however, his time at the Keepmoat Stadium was cut dramatically short following a hamstring injury.
That led to the striker returning to Old Trafford to start his rehabilitation.
But Macheda hascertainly not gone off Dickov’s radar following his short spell with Doncaster.
“He is close to coming back and training,” the Scotsman said on Macheda’s recovery.
“I’ve not spoken to Man United for a little bit. But I’ll be chucking in a cheeky little phonecall to David Moyes at some point.”
Dickov said he has spent the majority of this week out scouting players in order to strengthen his squad which he lambasted after Friday night’s frightful performance against Middlesbrough.
Losing 4-0 at the Riverside Stadium, Dickov said he was ‘embarrassed’ by the display.
“I have been out, I have been away most of the week scouting players and looking at potential players to bring in because if I see what I saw on Friday night, I will go out and get them (loan signings,” he said.
He went on: “We are looking at options all over the pitch at the minute.”
One area the former Oldham Athletic chief has strengthened has been Rovers’ left-back spot with South Korean star Yun Suk-Young coming in from QPR on an initial month’s deal.
Suk-Young will provide defensive cover for the void left by James Husband who is currently nursing a shoulder injury and faces 12 weeks on the sidelines.
