As part of their Come Home For Football campaign the Football League have revealed the statistics surrounding the annual festive fixture, which is traditionally one of the best attended of the season.

Sheffield United are fifth in the all-time table having won a total number of 111 points, making them our most successful seasonal side. The Blades have played 93, won 40, drawn 19 and lost 34. They are the fourth highest goalscorers in the fixture, with only Aston Villa, West Brom and Manchester United having found the net more times on Boxing Day over the years.

Manchester United are the side to have picked up most Boxing Day points having accumulated 137, ahead of Preston North End (118 points), West Bromwich Albion (117) and Nottingham Forest (113) and the Blades make up the top five.

Barnsley are next up in 15th for our sides with a record that reads: played 88, won 33, drawn 24 and lost 31. The Reds have accumulated 100 points in all.

Sheffield Wednesday are equal 22nd with Wolves with a record of played 91, won 28 drawn 31 and lost 32. They have notched up 96 points over the years.

After that come Chesterfield in 26th with 92 points having played 75 won, 32 drawn 18 and lost 25.

Doncaster Rovers are 56th with a record of played 69 won 24, drawn 17 and lost 28 and 72 points while Rotherham United's 73 points puts them as the last of our sides, in 66th place having played 65, won 24, drawn 14 and lost 27.

All in all, there have been 3,520 Boxing Day league fixtures played in The Football League and Premier League combined since 1888, with 1,819 home wins, 858 away wins and 843 draws.

Former Sheffield United forward Harry Johnson, who also turned out for Mansfield, has scored the most goals on Boxing Day, with an impressive 15 fired in the day after a bellyful of turkey.
