Doncaster Rovers: We’re on track insists Ferguson

Doncaster Rovers are not too far off schedule according to boss Darren Ferguson.

Just one defeat in the last five league matches has Rovers steadily climbing the table and putting daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.

Although he admits he would have liked a few more points on the board, Ferguson says he is pleased with the progress Rovers have made during his two months in charge.

“I would like to have had another three points in terms of the points tally but I suppose that is being a bit greedy,” he told The Star. “I’ve been pleased with the lads.

“The pleasing thing for me is that I can see they look like they’re gaining confidence and belief in themselves which is half the battle.

“I think you’ve seen that in the last two games because we’ve fallen behind and still had the belief we can get something out of it.

“That’s been the pleasing thing for me.

“But there’s more to come. There’s a lot more potential.

“It’s about being consistent as well. If we can continue that consistency and continue getting the right results even when we’re not playing well, they’re all the right attributes you need if you’re going to be successful.”

Rovers welcome struggling Crewe Alexandra to the Keepmoat today with the opportunity of moving into the top half of the table for the first time this season, should results go their way.

While confidence is high at the club, Ferguson insists his players are not getting carried away.

And he is urging them to come through a busy December in a strong position.

He said: “We’re heading in the right direction but no one is getting carried away.

“And as I’ve said to the players, we’re coming into a period of the season where things can change very quickly.

“If you get the right results in the next couple and then have a really good week over Christmas, all of sudden you can be going into the New Year looking at things really different.

“If you get bad results, it could be the other way round.

“It’s an important period and it’s important we keep the mentality, whether we play well or not, we get the win.”

Nathan Tyson is fit to face Crewe after recovering a back injury which forced him off at half time at Cambridge United last weekend.

Curtis Main and Richard Chaplow are also available after returning to training this week.
