It’s official, Paul Dickov’s men are this season’s best Championship team in Yorkshire!
Doncaster may still be fighting for their league survival but they have topped their derby day counterparts in the Championship Yorkshire table during a strong 2013-14 campaign against their local rivals.
Facing Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Barnsley home and away, Rovers boast four wins, three draws and a solitary defeat.
Their only loss came against Leeds United back in December, but Dickov’s men gained revenge on Saturday with a 2-1 victory at Elland Road thanks to David Cotterill and Billy Sharp finishes.
Rovers top the table with 15 points ahead of their South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday who have collected 11 points this term.
Huddersfield Town remain in third with Leeds and Barnsley still to play each other as they sit in fourth and fifth respectively.
On Doncaster’s derby day joy, Dickov said: “Credit has got to go to the players. We talk a lot about pride in your performance all the time but especially when it comes to derby games and the players have definitely showed that.”
He went on: “To come to your local rivals [Leeds] and get the three points in what was a massively important game for us.
“It was a great result for the fans.”
