Doncaster Rovers: We let our fans down against Scunthorpe, says Ferguson

Darren Ferguson felt Rovers missed an opportunity to get the more casual fans excited because of their poor performance against Scunthorpe United.

More home supporters attended the Boxing Day clash than any other game at the Keepmoat this season.

And Ferguson was left to bemoan the fact his side failed to perform in a manner to convince the more occasional attendees to return on a regular basis.

“I’m disappointed for the fans,” he said. “I bet a lot came that haven’t been for a while and they’ve probably gone away wondering what people have been going on about.

“After the game, I said to the players that we need as many fans in here as possible. I’m sure a lot brought their kids with it being Boxing Day.

“I had my five-year-old here for the first time today and he won’t be coming back.”

Ferguson gave his players Christmas Day off but felt that had no bearing on the result or performance.

He said: “Everything is done by a Friday before a game and we try to make it as relaxing as possible.

“What’s right, what’s wrong? You can debate that all day long.

“But I don’t think it had a bearing at all because as the game went on we looked stronger.

“It was just a flat performance and sometimes you get that.”
