New Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson will have a watching brief against Bradford City tomorrow.

Ferguson was due to meet the Rovers squad for the first time today and will officially take over the running of the team on Sunday.

The Scot spoke to interim boss Rob Jones last night about team selection and will leave the match-day management duties against the Bantams to the existing coaching staff.

Ferguson is expected to be formally introduced to fans at the game tomorrow before watching the match from the stands.

“Rob and the two Pauls [Butler and Stancliffe] will pick the team,” said Ferguson.

“I’m not going to get involved in that because I’ve not worked with the players yet.

“It would be wrong of me to go in and pick a team just going off what I’ve seen on videos and DVDs.

“I’ve not seen them live and that was a conscious decision I made.

“The process has been five and a half weeks and I could have come and watched games but the speculation has been there from the off with myself and other managers.

“Other managers have chosen to watch them live but I felt that Rob [Jones] made a decision to want the job so I think it would have been disrespectful if I was sat behind him while he was trying to get the job.

“So tomorrow will be the first time I get to see them live. I’m looking forward to it, but they’ll pick the team. They’ve prepared the team.

“I’ll wish the lads all the best before the game,” he added.

“I don’t want to [have to get involved at half time]. I hope not, but on the day you never know.

“I spoke to Rob last night about what team he was selecting and went through that with him, so it’s over to them.

“The first day with the team will be Sunday.”
