Game management will be key to Doncaster ending their Leeds United hoodoo, according to Paul Dickov.

Rovers are without a win in seven against their West Yorkshire rivals. Their last victory against the Whites was at Wembley in 2008.

Under Dickov, Rovers have twice been in the game against Brian McDermott’s side only to let things slip defensively in the closing stages and end up on the wrong end of 3-0 and 3-1 league and cup scorelines.

And the Scot is keen to avoid a similar lapse at Elland Road tomorrow.

Dickov told The Star: “The two games we’ve had with them this season we’ve played very well but we’ve conceded some poor goals.

“We’ve got back in each game and looked like we could get back into it, only to concede some poor goals at the end.

“In both games they’ve scored their goals at crucial times, when we’ve been on top. That’s something we need to be aware of.

“Like we have done recently, we need to use our heads a bit more defensively and also not feel like we have to score with every attack.

“The pleasing thing for me is that defensively we’ve looked really sound recently,” he added.

“We’re going to have to do that on Saturday.”

The addition of Lucas Neill hands Dickov has a pleasant selection dilemma in defence.

“Lucas is in as cover but he’s ready to start if that’s what I decide to do,” said Dickov.
