After reaching the end of the first stage of interviews, Rovers invited two candidates back for second meetings, which will take place next Monday.

And they have also taken the opportunity to invite a third candidate who was not available for the first round of interviews.

The prospective candidate is understood to have been abroad during the first stage, which took place last Friday and Monday.

And he will be given the chance to impress and edge past the two leading candidates for the position.

Rovers had hoped to have appointed a manager this week but logistical reasons mean the second interview stage cannot take place until next Monday - the day the squad returns for pre-season.

The trio of prospective candidates are understood to be unconcerned by the prospect of not being in position for the start of pre-season training, which will instead be overseen by assistant manager Gavin Strachan.

The first week of pre-season you would see the sports science department take a big lead on that in terms of the fitness testing,” Strachan told the club’s official website.

“It’s a bit of a reintroduction – the same goes for the football side as well.”
