Doncaster Rovers: ‘They couldn’t live with us’ – McCann on draw at Peterborough

Grant McCann said Peterborough United could not get near his Doncaster Rovers side as they battled out a 1-1 draw on his return to London Road.

McCann – a former Posh player and manager – was frustrated to come away with only a point following an impressive performance in which Rovers ended Peterborough’s 100 per cent start to the League One campaign.

But he insists Rovers will take plenty of confidence from the performance.

“We’ve come to the so-called best team in the league at the minute and they weren’t even near us today,” McCann said.

The Rovers boss hailed an impressive tactical show from Rovers as they nullified a Peterborough side that have looked incredibly dangerous on the counter so far this season.

“We know the way they play,” he said. “They try to play on the counterattack.

“Dembele is quick, Cummings and Godden run in behind.

“I thought we dealt with it. I don’t think Marko Marosi had much to do.

“We’re disappointed with the goal because if we see it back, they’ve got three men in the line of the wall that were unmarked.

“Any one of them could have put it in.

“It’s something we need to learn and work on. We need to stay narrow and compact and for a split second we got done and we concede.

“We came again and had other opportunities. Mallik Wilks hit the post and the keeper is making some really good saves.

“We go again. We’re not going to get too down about it.”
