DONCASTER Rovers have signed former Sheffield United midfielder James Harper on a one-year deal, writes Richard Hewitt.

Harper, who has been on trial with the South Yorkshire club, is poised to make his debut at Walsall tomorrow.

The 31-year-old boasts a wealth of Football League experience and also enjoyed a short stint in the Premier League with Reading after helping them to secure promotion in the 2005-06 season.

In 2009, Harper signed for the Blades on loan and impressed enough in that short spell to earn a permanent deal at Bramall Lane. Following a productive successful with the club, Harper left for Hull City in 2010.

He remained at the KC Stadium Stadium until January 2012 before joining Wycombe Wanderers on loan.
