Doncaster Rovers: Keepmoat switch was an easy fit for Craig Alcock

The versatile defender this week extended his loan deal from Sheffield United until January 2 with the possibility of making the switch permanent next month understood to be on the table.

Alcock insists he found his transition into the Rovers squad a rather simple process.

“I was fortunate to come into an environment that was on the up,” he said.

“It’s took maybe a while for the gaffer to get his ideas across to the players.

“But they’re a really good group who are taking on board what he is saying.”

The 27-year-old worked under Rovers boss Darren Ferguson at Peterborough United, with the presence of the Scot a major reason behind his decision to move across South Yorkshire.

Alcock lauded Ferguson’s managerial style and admitted it is enjoyable to play in his systems.

He said: “The gaffer is brilliant. He knows what he wants.

“If you’re prepared to listen and graft then you’ll be ok with him.

“He just wants people who will work hard and take on board the style of play he wants to implement which is exciting, free-flowing and brings plenty of goals.

“That showed when he was at Peterborough.”

Alcock can play across the back line and has featured at right sided centre half and wing back so far during the four starts so far of his Rovers stay.

While the Cornishman admits he is a fan of the 3-5-2 system currently favoured by Ferguson, he says he is just happy to be playing football regularly.

He said: “We played that system a few times at Peterborough and it turned results around.

“It just shows the adaptability he’s got whether he plays the four or a 3-5-2.

“You’ve got to have the players to play in that system as well.

“From my point of view it’s nice to be in both. As long as it gets you in the team, it doesn’t matter.”

Alcock is likely to keep his right sided centre half birth when Rovers welcome Crewe Alexandra to the Keepmoat on Saturday.
