Keep the season alive!
That’s the clear message from boss Darren Ferguson ahead of the first of Doncaster Rovers’ triple bill of local derbies.
Rovers make the short journey to Scunthorpe United tomorrow before meetings with Sheffield United and Barnsley.
And Ferguson is eager for his side to breathe new life into their season after going five games without a win and sinking back into the bottom half of the League One table.
“It’s important we don’t let the season peter out,” said Ferguson, whose side have dropped to 16th in the standings, eight points adrift the play-offs and eight points clear of the drop zone.
“That’s really, really key. We’ve had a meeting about that.
“I’m not one for writing any season off.
“These next few games are vitally important to our season and we want to finish as high up as we can and get as many points as we can.
“We’ve got to start on Saturday.
“After losing a couple on the bounce it’s a big game.
“We want to make sure it’s a positive result and then we can maybe start on another run again.
“When you lose and draw games confidence can be an issue, but I think we’ve shown before when we get that win the confidence can go the other way.
“We had a look back on the game on Tuesday night and there were a lot of positives,” he added.
“We could’ve been 2-0 up before losing the two goals in quick succession.
“We’ve got to make sure we eradicate these lapses in concentration.
“Our away form is good. We’ve got to take that into the game.”
