Doncaster Rovers: Forrester ‘doing all the right things’

Harry Forrester is ‘doing all the right things’ during his struggle to force himself into the Doncaster Rovers matchday squad, according to boss Darren Ferguson.

The attacking midfielder has been left out of Rovers’ matchday 18 for three of the last four matches and has made just two appearances off the bench since Ferguson took charge of the club in October.

Forrester scored twice in Rovers’ 4-1 development squad win over Rotherham United earlier this week.

Speculation has linked Forrester – who is in the final year of his contract – with a move away from the Keepmoat in January.

But Ferguson says the 24-year-old is currently the victim of circumstance with Rovers on a strong run of form.

“He did well in the development squad game, scoring a couple of goals, in a different formation than we play because of the personnel,” Ferguson said.

“He knows the system we play as well as everyone else and I think he can fit into it.

“But I’ve obviously got other bodies that are fit and available.

“Harry did fine in the game the other day.

“All I can look for is for the players that play in these sort of games to apply themselves and show the right attitude and all of them did that.

“I was really pleased with them.

“I don’t think anyone can question Harry’s ability.

“He’s been good, he’s been fine.

“It’s just when you pick a bench it has to have the right balance with the way you see the game going.

“At the moment the team are doing really well and sometimes that makes it easy for a manager.”

Rovers travel to League One leaders Burton Albion this afternoon.
