Lund scored his first senior goal during Sunday’s 3-1 win in the FA Cup at Cambridge United.

Coming on his return to the side following a shoulder injury, the 19-year-old turned in arguably his best performance in a Rovers shirt.

Operating at wing back, Lund spent much of the first half defending in line with Rovers’ back three as they found themselves under pressure from a rampant Cambridge side.

But after the break he got on the front foot and had a hand in all three goals with strong attacking runs.

And boss Ferguson was full of praise for Lund and his performance.

The bonus is him getting a goal at the back post,” Ferguson said.

“He didn’t have a clue what to do when he scored, his celebration. I think he was in shock.

“I was worried he might have been offside but he can’t have been.

“He did very well and he’s come back from his injury really well.

“It was a delicate area where he injured his shoulder but he won’t get a better test than today. He’s obviously fine with that.

“It was a tough battle but Mitchell is a tough boy, I had no worries about that. He’s tough enough.

“I was pleased with him. I’ve got high hopes for him. He’s a good player.”

Craig Alcock last night extended his loan deal with Rovers from Sheffield United until January 2.

The Star understands there is potential for a permanent switch for the defender in the January transfer window with the Blades flush with defensive options.
