IT’S the chance of a dream come true for a Doncaster Rovers fan.
Bosses at the Keepmoat Stadium have announced they are opening up to anyone - as long as they have the cash - the pitch where Rovers have been playing their Championship matches.
And so far the pitch has been snapped up by a number of groups, including a Ridgewood School reunion, a plumbing and heating firm, a cancer charity fundraising match, and a match for a group of pals from Harworth, say organisers.
Under the Play on the Pitch offer, announced by the firm which runs the loss making council-owned stadium, groups of players will be able to chip in to hire the stadium before the pitch is relaid. That means the chance to play games between Monday, April 30, and Sunday, May 6 - although it costs £1,200.
Participants are promised the full matchday experience, with use of the Doncaster Rovers home and away dressing rooms, customised entrance and goal music, and the chance to see their team name lit up on the scoreboard.
Event sales co-ordinator Paul Sheehan said: “The chance to play on the Keepmoat pitch has proved very popular and half of the places have already been snapped up.
“It’s a great chance for Rovers, Belles or football fans in general to live the dream and walk out onto the turf with friends and family.
“I think that all the aspects of the day combine to make it one you would never forget.
“Participants will receive the full footballing experience, play in this magnificent stadium in front of friends and family, and maybe even score that winning goal they always dreamed of as a kid!
“We have designed the day to be suited to businesses, families and sports teams and the facilities available to guests mean it isn’t just for those who fancy themselves the next Lionel Messi.”
Those hiring the pitch will be able to bring up along to 500 spectators, and their own mascots, to watch them in action.
