Everton have agreed to allow both Mattioni and Conor Grant to remain with Rovers until the end of the season with their initial deals set to expire on Saturday night.

Ferguson also revealed Rovers are close to agreeing a permanent switch for defender Craig Alcock who is currently on loan with the club from Sheffield United.

Brazilian wing back Mattioni was withdrawn after just 31 minutes in Monday’s 2-1 win at Oldham Athletic with what appeared to be a hamstring issue.

“I hope he’s ok but I’m not confident,” Ferguson said.

“I think he might have done his hamstring and if that is the case he would have to go back to Everton for a period of time,

“It looks like we’ve secured both of them, Felipe and Conor, in terms of keeping them on loan for the rest of the season.

“That’s really good. I’m delighted with that. I thought Conor at times was really good against Oldham.

“Craig Alcock, I think we’re going to turn that to permanent. I think that’s close to being done.

“All three of the deals will be fine and I’m looking to get them done.

“But if Felipe is out for a long time, I would be looking to get another player in that position.

“But I’m hoping that he’s not that long.”

Ferguson insisted he had no regrets over starting Mattioni, who was making his first appearance in a month after suffering a calf issue in the draw at Coventry City,

“He was fit clearly because we did a lot of work, we gave him a fitness test on Sunday, and did everything with him and he was fine.” he said.

“It’s not the original injury he’s had. He felt his hamstring.

“The real risk would have been playing him on Saturday and I didn’t want to do that.”

Rovers’ fourth loan player, Cameron Stewart, is currently out with a back injury.
