Billy Whitehouse has praised his ‘mentor’ James Coppinger for helping him break into the first team.
Local lad Whitehouse, 18, made his first senior start against Notts County on Tuesday night.
“Copps is a great lad and he’s helped me massively since I moved up to the first team squad. He’s been brilliant with me,” said Whitehouse.
“He’s taken me under his wing this season and given me a lot of advice.
“We have an hour’s chat sometimes, talking about where he thinks I could be doing better, how he thinks I’m doing now, and things off the pitch. I don’t think I’d be getting opportunities like this in the first team if it wasn’t for Copps.”
On his performance, Whitehouse added: “It was an unbelievable experience. I thought I did alright. It’s something to build on for me.”
