The 24-year-old has signed an initial six month deal with the Scottish giants in a move that will be confirmed on the opening of the transfer window on Saturday - which is also Forrester's birthday.

Joining Rangers sees Forrester reunite with manager Mark Warburton who he worked with at Watford and Brentford.

Forrester found himself out of favour following Darren Ferguson's appointment as Doncaster Rovers boss in October.

He made just two substitute appearances under Ferguson and was absent for the last five matchday squads.

Forrester signed for Rovers from Brentford in 2013 following their promotion back to the Championship. Rovers paid an undisclosed compensation fee due to the midfielder's age.

He went on to make 66 appearances for Rovers, scoring 11 goals.
