Doncaster Rovers Belles chairperson Faye Lygo has confirmed the club are in advanced takeover talks with Club Doncaster.

In an exclusive interview in this week's Doncaster Free Press, Club Doncaster CEO revealed an agreement was close with the Belles regarding a takeover.

And in a statement this evening, Lygo has confirmed talks are progressing in a positive manner.

She said: "We can confirm that we are in detailed discussions with the Rovers and believe matters are moving forward positively.

"We have had to take measures to stabilise the club at a time of change in the women's game and believe the future of the Belles lies in Doncaster, with the Rovers."

Baldwin said he felt Club Doncaster was incomplete without the presence of the Belles alongside Rovers and the Dons

The two organisations have been in talks for several months, with all potential avenues considered from a complete takeover to a closer working relationship.

Up until this season, the Belles played their home fixtures at the Keepmoat Stadium and used training facilities on the site.

Despite winning the women's second tier title last season, financial constraints saw them elect to drop to the division below, the Women's National League Northern Premier, where they have started with just one win in nine.

Baldwin insists Club Doncaster will only take on the Belles if they feel they can make a positive difference to the historic club.
