Bury are reportedly winning the race to sign Doncaster Rovers target Tom Pope.

The 29-year-old striker, whose contract at Port Vale expires this month, is due to meet Shakers boss David Flitcroft for a second round of talks today and could put pen to paper on a proposed three-year deal.

Pope was identified by Dickov early in the summer as a top target because of his goalscoring record at League One level and also his physicality and ability to lead the line.

Bury, promoted from League Two last season, have already shown their intent to push on next season by bringing in Leon Clarke on a three-year deal after his release by Wolves.
