Bruce's Rovers return

BRUCE Dyer's loan at Rotherham United has been cut short due to injury.

The Doncaster Rovers striker returned to the Keepmoat Stadium after medical staff at Millmoor ruled him out of the League Two side's game against Mansfield tomorrow.

Dyer made three starts for Mark Robins' side without scoring before suffering a back problem and has returned to his parent club for treatment.

The situation will come as a huge disappointment to Dyer as he attempts to force his way back into Sean O'Driscoll's plans.

Rotherham signed the former England under-21 international three weeks ago to cover for injuries and Dyer admitted the move was designed to improve his form and fitness.

"As a striker you need games," he said. "Playing gives you confidence and the chance to score goals."

Meanwhile, Rovers' defence will have to contend with Paul Furlong at Luton Town tomorrow after the former Chelsea and Sheffield United striker completed a suspension following his sending-off against Huddersfield last month.

Barnsley property Brian Howard has dismissed reports linking him with a clutch of Premier League clubs.

Everton, Aston Villa and Bolton are said to be monitoring the free-scoring midfielder but, as he prepared for tomorrow's Championship match of the day at Charlton, he said: "I've just signed a new two-year contract. I know there's been stuff in the papers but you don't pay any attention to that."

Howard will skipper Barnsley against at Charlton. Club captain Paul Reid remains out in the cold and unable to claim a place in the Barnsley starting 11.
