New Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann will get to know his players - and give them a chance to impress - before moving into the transfer market.

McCann says he has identified the areas of the squad which need strengthening.

But he was unwilling to reveal them during his unveiling on Thursday.

“I know there’s huge potential in this squad,” said McCann. “If I can add to it, and bring one or two others in to make us stronger, then I will.

“But I think it’s more important that I get to know this group over the next week or so to see what they have to offer, even though I know most of them anyway. I’m looking forward to the next week and getting to know them even more.”

Asked about which areas specifically he would like to strengthen, he said: “I think it’s important not to say what we need at the minute. I’ve only just come in the door today to meet the boys, I can’t come to you [the media] and say ‘I need this, this and this’.

“Of course, I know what we need to strengthen. Of course, there are areas where in the back of my mind I’m thinking that will help us if we get to build in this area.

“But I think I’ve got to give people a chance for the first week or two, just to see if they’re ready to step up to it.”

Andy Williams, Craig Alcock, Mathieu Baudry and Cedric Evina left the club this summer, while Jordan Houghton and Rodney Kongolo’s loans expired. Tom Anderson and Max Watters were signed by Darren Ferguson.
