Dettori out of St Leger

FRANKIE Dettori will not get the chance to land a third consecutive Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday.

Richard Hills has come in for the mount on Celestial Halo, trained by his father Barry, in world’s oldest Classic as the Italian jockey was claimed by Godolphin to ride at Goodwood.

Dettori, who struck gold in the Leger with Scorpion (2005) and Sixties Icon last year, was in line to partner the Jack Hanson-owned colt but is required by his bosses to ride at the Sussex track.

Hills snr said: “Richard Hills will ride. Frankie has got a retainer and you can’t have everything.”

Celestial Halo is 50-1 with the sponsors after his second in the Melrose Stakes at York last month.
