Davey spree is over

BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey has declared an end to his Barnsley revamp.

With Jamal Campbell-Ryce bringing the summer recruitment drive to 14 and the transfer window closed, Davey has achieved his squad-building aim.

"We wanted competition and cover for every area," he stressed.

Campbell-Ryce looks set to make his first appearance for the club in a strong reserve team taking on Bradford Reserves at Oakwell tomorrow afternoon in a Pontin's Cup clash.

That game will also mark club skipper Paul Reid's return to action following a three-match ban for being sent off at Colchester.

Rob Atkinson, Dwayne Mattis. Sam Togwell, Miguel Mostto and Rohan Ricketts have also been pencilled into the reserve team.

Meanwhile Brazilian midfielder Anderson de Silva, who is on loan for a month at Oakwell, has returned to Everton for treatment to an ankle injury.

Striker Istvan Ferenczi has been ordered to take a complete rest for the next eight days.

The Hungarian hitman missed the 2-0 Carling Cup defeat at Newcastle last week after picking up a knock, and had to be withdrawn from the West Brom clash on Saturday after his ankle injury flared up again.

Defender Dennis Souza also injured his hand in the game but was fit to train yesterday.

"Istvan nursed an injury from last week and that flared up again and he had to come off," said Davey.

"Souza had a sore hand. Somebody stepped on it during the first half and he had to continue with strapping on it."

Barnsley trio - Lewin Nyatanga, Grant McCann and Nick Colgan - have joined up with the Welsh, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland squads ahead of this weekend's international fixtures.

Former Barnsley striker Daniel Nardiello has withdrawn from the Wales squad with a back injury. Nardiello moved to QPR in the summer.

Meanwhile

, despite receiving backing from his chairman, Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll says he is under no illusions the situation could change "in the blink of an eye."

Rovers chairman John Ryan backed O'Driscoll before and after the club's first league victory at Swansea on Saturday.

"The chairman does what he does, it's his club and will do things his way and I understand that," said O'Driscoll.
