Danny Wilson pleased with four points in four days

Spireites followed up Saturday’s win over high flying Gillingham with a 1-1 draw at home to fellow relegation threatened side Blackpool.

The visitors ended the game with 10 men, and had to withstand some intense pressure from Chesterfield in the second half.

But Wilson was keen to look at the overall picture.

“If you’d turned the results around and we’d got a point at Gillingham and three tonight it would have been a fantastic return,” he said.

“You need two a game.

“We can’t be too disappointed.

“I think it was a fair result if I’m brutally honest.”

He admitted that Blackpool might also have been a little disappointed not to take all three points, having hit the woodwork three times in a pulsating first half.

And highlighted his own team’s inability to capitalise on some fantastic crosses from the in-form Gboly Ariyibi.

“We can’t complain too much, they had their chances like we did,” he said.

“They came to win the game.”

“They hit the crossbar and the post, we can’t be too biased in saying we should have won, but saying that we’ve had our chances and if you don’t take them that’s a problem.

“There was a cutting edge missing today. We played some great football at times and got some great balls in the box, just nobody on the end of them.”

But it was a disappointed dressing room come full-time, which Wilson says shows how much progress the side have made recently.

“If you’d seen the boys in the dressing room you’d have thought they’d beem beaten, that’s where we’ve moved to.

“It’s a mental state you encourage.

“The lads are in there gutted but we’ve had to pick them up – sometimes it doesn’t happen but you can’t be too down about it.”

After two intense outings in a short space of time, and with another long trip ahead of them this weekend, Wilson will be wrapping his players in cotton wool to a certain extent.

“The lads have put in an unbelievable shift in the last two games, virtually the same team throughout so they’ll have to put their feet up.

“It’s about man management and getting ready for Southend on Saturday,” he said.
