Danny Wilson: '˜MK Dons gave us all a big lift'

Chesterfield claimed maximum points with a dramatic 3-2 win to move within four points of safety.

It also ended a horror run of eight straight league defeats for Wilson’s men.

Wilson said: “As you can appreciate it’s been a long time coming and, as I’ve said many times before, it’s been unusual in terms of our performances why we haven’t not won games, but we haven’t and that’s a fact.

“So it’s a great feeling and it’s given everyone a big lift. Not just the three points but the way in which we secured them. I think the game showed all the characteristics of the team. And we are going to need all them in the coming games.

“To go to MK Dons, particularly on their own turf, they are a good side. I know they’ve not won at home, but that’s irrespective in my mind, they are still a good side.

“They are one of the best footballing sides in the division and we’ve come away with three points. So we can take a lot of encouragement from that.

“Where we found ourselves before the game I think everyone thought we’d be out on a limb and confidence shattered. But it’s been quite the opposite.

“The players have thankfully all said the same thing and if you’ve got that togetherness and that belief, it’s a good thing to have. You start from a good base.

“We have had games we didn’t think we deserved to lose and we have lost.

“Looking on the bright side, let’s hope that’s the turning point for us. We take nothing for granted.

“Psychologically it would be very nice and I think we have the belief to do that. We have the talent to do it. When you get one or two players coming back it gives everyone a bit of a lift.

And Wilson is now calling on his players to take that form into games at the Proact and to find a new ruthless streak in front of goal.

“I think the opportunities we are creating, they need to be put into the net, that’s been the difference.

“We have had lots of opportunities at home and we haven’t taken them.

“In midweek we have connected with three good goals which is a confidence-booster for the strikers.

“The home form wasn’t bad a for long spell early in the season. We know we can play well at home, take our chances and it will be a different story. The positivity from fans in most areas has been great and I’m sure come Saturday they will really get behind the boys.

“One or two things fell in our favour in midweek and a bit of luck never goes amiss With a bit of luck, and we will always take whatever is available, we hope we can get a good result and concentrate on the cup game the week after.”
