“We know Bristol Rovers have had a really good start to the season and their midweek blip,” he said.

“I am sure they’ll think it is, they will put to one side and we’ll expect a very tough encounter at the weekend. I think they will be firing on all cylinders to rectify that at the weekend.

“They were down to 10 men for a long period of the game where Charlton scored two extra goals.

“I have seen the game and there’s nothing between the two teams before Charlton score. It’s incredible.

Dennis: ‘We need to go on winning run’Wilson: “We deserve more credit”Chris Turner backing Chesterfield to climb to safety“There were circumstances to the scoreline that I am not taking too much notice of. But there are areas in which we think we can cause some problems and I am sure they will think exactly the same of us.

“I think they came up with a lot of momentum with the promotion they’d had and Darrell Clarke, the manager there, has done a fantastic job over the last few years

“They were talking about him getting the bullet prior to the first promotion they got, then he follows it up with two promotions.

“So it does bear out at times a bit of patience and a bit of belief is needed and you come up with two promotions. The momentum he brought into this division was there to be seen at the beginning of the season.

“Maybe he has plateaued a little bit, but they are still in a great position and challenging the top six and they have a squad capable of that. They are making a good fist of it at the moment, taking away the midweek result.

“So we expect a very tough games as most teams have on their travels.

“They have a fantastic fan base down there, a bit like Sheffield in one respect where you have two well-supported clubs.”

Wilson is not expecting any more of the club’s injured players to make a return as Spireites look to increase their playing options.

He added: “Apart from the two we had on the bench in midweek, Jon Nolan and Dan Gardner who both came on, I would hazard a guess at no, but we will wait and see until the last minute.

“We never rule everybody out. We are just giving ourselves a chance with the last few throws of the dice before a game.”
