Danny Wilson confident Jordan Slew will shine at Chesterfield FC

Spireites boss Danny Wilson believes new signing Jordan Slew has the potential to shine bright at Chesterfield FC.

The 23-year-old former Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers man was unattached after leaving Cambridge United at the start of February and has joined until the end of the season.

Wilson said: “I know Jordan obviously from Sheffield United. I didn’t think he should have gone at that time, I didn’t think he was ready for a move of that stature, he needed to play football.

“The platform was given to him at Bramall Lane and he decided against it, which is his perogative. I think he’s been treading water for four or five years, he needs to get a solid base under his boots.

“Hopefully we’ll give him the platform and the opportunity and it will be down to him now to impress everyone around the club.

“We believe there’s potential in there, no where near fulfilled and let’s just see how we go on.

“I think he has got that hunger, that’s what given me the decision and thankfully the club’s decision to take him on board.

“If he does fill some of the potential that we feel he can, he’ll be a great asset to us, particularly between now and the end of the season.

“There’s nothing better than having a group of strikers all hungry, champing at the bit and raring to play.

“He’s nowhere near his peak, strikers are 28 and 29 just starting to feel in their ascendancy.

“This is not a long term project at the moment, it’s between now and the end of the season. I like to think he can do a job for us and hep himself at the same time.”

Slew, who has represented England at under-19s level, will wear the number 32 for Chesterfield.
