Danny Wilson: '˜Chesterfield can topple the leaders'

The Chesterfield boss believes his squad will be able to put the frustration of Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Fleetwood behind them.

And he hopes that with a little luck - something they didn’t get against Fleetwood - they can pick up a first win in 11 league outings.

“It won’t be difficult to raise them,” he said.

“We’ve got the top of the league coming here on Saturday, it’ll be a good atmosphere.

“The lads won’t feel sorry for themselves, I can promise you that, we’ll put in a good performance.

“I hope we get a bit of the rub of the green and if we do it’s onwards and upwards.”

Wilson is under no illusion as to the size of the task presented by The Iron, a side in freescoring form.

But he does have the bonus of two senior players returning from injury, Ched Evans and Paul McGinn who both unexpectedly came off the bench to feature on Tuesday.

“t’s good that we’ve started to get one or two back,” he said.

“We’ll start to see the performances change, more players back, more to choose from, more leeway to pick one or two.

“That gives everyone the confidence we need to go forward.

“Scunthorpe are top on merit, we’ve had them watched and they’re a good team.

“We’ll have to be at our mettle like we were on Tuesday night.”

One downside for Wilson is a serious knee injury sustained by on-loan Bolton striker Connor Wilkinson who looks set to miss the next two to three months and may not feature again for Chesterfield.
