The Millers are understood to have made a bid for the 23-year-old who spent last season on loan at the club.

Barlaser is trying to force his way into Steve Bruce's plans in the north east and played 90 minutes of their Carabao Cup win over Blackburn on Tuesday.

Whether or not Barlaser returns to the AESSEAL New York Stadium or not appears to hinge on if he makes it into Bruce's 25-man Premier League squad.

And Warne is waiting to pounce if that does not happen.

“He is still Newcastle's player and they are using him,” the boss told the Star. “If he doesn't get included in the 25-man squad at the end of the month then I will move very quickly to get him here.

“I am making no bones about the fact that I want to sign him but I also sincerely want him to play for Newcastle.

“I don't want him to come here with a broken heart thinking this is a bad second place. His dream is to play for Newcastle, he has been there since he was nine, I am not going to be the one to break that dream that is why I have been pretty quiet.

“I have kept my distance and I still will but if he doesn't make the 25-man squad and he becomes available then if I can buy him I will do.

“At this moment in time, I am watching with baited breath to see how it goes.”

The Millers continue their Championship campaign with a first home game since February on Saturday as Millwall visit.

They will be without Clark Robertson who is set for a fortnight on the sidelines with a quad injury.

Warne added: “He had a bit of quad pain two weeks ago, but he shrugged it off and was fine, maybe he played a bit too soon.

“At 70 minutes against Wycombe he got a bit of fatigue, we asked if he wanted to come off he said he was alright. He is a little bit sore, I can see him being out for a couple of weeks.”
