Crossley exit puts question mark, not full stop on potential Dibble deal

Chesterfield are seeking a replacement goalkeeper after releasing Aaron Chapman and want someone to push their first choice stopper Tommy Lee.

The club are reportedly scouring the non-league scene, in keeping with their summer recruitment policy to date.

Christian Dibble, who has had a trial with the Spireites, was one of the names firmly in the frame.

But Crossley’s move to Notts County to take on the role of assistant manager to John Sheridan has introduced an element of doubt to Dibble’s potential arrival at the Proact.

It is thought that former Chesterfield goalkeeping coach Crossley was very keen on the 22-year-old, who is the son of ex Manchester City and Rangers custodian Andy Dibble.

Dibble spent the second half of last season at National League South club Chelmsford City, having been released by Barnsley.

He was a Tykes player when Danny Wilson was last in charge at Oakwell and has represented Wales at Under 19 level.

Another keeper who has been linked with the Spireites is James Montgomery, who also had a trial with the club towards the end of last season.

But he told The Star he recently signed a new one-year deal at AFC Telford United and isn’t aware of any interest from Chesterfield.
