Cook brings his Wigan Athletic side to the Proact tomorrow night to celebrate the 31-year-old’s career.

The man who masterminded a League Two title and a run to the League One play-offs in charge of Chesterfield, is a big fan of the goalkeeper.

“Tommy is outstanding,” said Cook.

“He is a fantastic lad and it is really disappointing to see him have to cut short his career.

“He has been an outstanding goalkeeper and as a lad and a character, you won’t get better.

“He was such a popular member of the dressing room.

“The fact we can go back and help in any way, shape or form, is great for us all.”

At the time of writing, around 2,000 tickets have been sold for the game, with a healthy ‘walk up’ crowd expected as well.
