Spireites boss Danny Wilson revealed the relief felt around the club following a difficult week when chairman Dave Allen resigned as chairman.

Allen remains the club’s majority shareholder and long-standing member of the board Mike Warner took on the role as chairman over the weekend.

Wilson expects to speak to Warner over the coming days but said everyone at the club can get on with their jobs in the knowledge they will be paid.

“As a club, I think there’s a relief that money will be there, not just the players but from everyone’s point of view to know they are okay in the short term,” said Wilson.

“We’ll have to see what happens in the longer term. But it does ease the mind and one or two anxieties for a short period.”

Wilson has the task of preparing his players for the away trip to MK Dons on Tuesday night, where the Spireites will look to end a run of eight consecutive defeats.

“From that point of view there’s no excuses now,” he said. “The lads will take to the pitch tomorrow night knowing that they will be okay.

“The players in most football clubs are the most secure. They have the PFA but my concern was with the other people at the football club as well.”

Rock-bottom Chesterfield currently seven points adrift from safety have the opportunity to reduce the six-point gap between themselves and fourth-from-bottom MK Dons.

And Wilson said each member of the staff has a responsibility to make the club a better proposition for any potential investors.

He added: “It is a responsibility for all of us to take on board. The ongoing concern as a business is we need to be firing at our very best and although we’ve got some good players the results aren’t good enough. “We can bring out any excuse we want, we have all these injuries, but when eleven players take to the field we expect them to win. They are all at this football club because they have a talent.”
