Dave Allen is '˜very sad and very bitter' about the situation his football club finds itself in and plans to play a more active role in '˜putting things right.'

The club owner is quoted in an article by The Guardian’s David Conn about the Spireites’ demise.

Allen, who hasn’t spoken to the press since he resigned as chairman at the club’s November 2016 AGM, reiterated what he said at that meeting – that his intention had been to bring Championship football to the Proact.

“I only went in to invest money,” he told Conn.

“My ambition was to get into the Championship and flog it.

“But they wanted more money within months. I’ve put a hell of a lot of money in. I’m very sad and I also feel very bitter.”

Last night at the Proact there were sustained chants of ‘Carson out’ from the Kop, aimed at the man who runs the club on behalf of the owner.

But the casino magnate absolves Ashley Carson of blame for the club’s mistakes.

“He is a good, straight businessman; I’ve known him a long time,” he said of Chesterfield’s company secretary.

“I don’t think the bad decisions were down to him.”

And Allen, who will make the final decision on the appointment of a new manager to try and lead the club back out of the National League next season, says he will be more involved.

“I am going to take a more active part now in trying to put things right, and we need to appoint the right manager to bounce back up again.”
