Liam Cooper says he is getting used to life at left-back, but ultimately wants to return to centre-half.

The 22-year-old has made the switch from his usual position at the heart of defence with injuries in recent weeks to Nathan Smith and Ritchie Humphreys.

Cooper, who notched his first goal of the season with a bullet header in a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood, said he’s happy to do a job for the team.

He said: “It’s tougher on the legs but I’m getting used to it. Hopefully I’ll be back at centre-half soon but I’m happy to play anywhere.”

Humphreys returned to action at the Highbury Stadium after missing the midweek win at Mansfield Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round.

Spireites boss Paul Cook said Smith is getting closer to regaining full fitness.

The Spireites will be at home to Rochdale in the Northern Area quarter-finals of the JPT next month.
