He said: “Being the first player out on the pitch to warm up and getting the reception I got from the Chesterfield fans behind the goal, in that stadium, gave me goosebumps.

“The game almost took care of itself but the feeling when Craig Westcarr made it 2-0 was unbelievable and something I’ll never forget.

“And of course, getting the chance to walk up those steps at the new Wembley to lift a trophy was a special moment.”

The current Sheffield Wednesday head of academy goalkeeping made numerous saves throughout the match but described one moment early on as something that “set the tone” for the rest of the

game.

“It was not really a save but I remember catching a high ball right under the crossbar, under a bit of pressure early in the game,” he explained. “It was a difficult ball to deal with and set the tone for the rest of my performance.”

In his almost decade long spell with the Spireites, the now 34-year-old regards the day as one of his top moments in north Derbyshire.

He said: “I’ve got to say it’s right at the top in terms of that relief and joy you feel winning as cup final especially at Wembley.

“The league wins were unbelievable but winning at Wembley is a different type of satisfaction.

“The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final was actually my second appearance at Wembley, having played there in a play-off final a few years earlier and from that experience, which passed me by slightly.

He added: “I learned that you’ve got to take in the experience and enjoy it, they’re special occasions and don’t come around often, if at all.”
