Spireites eased to a comfortable 5-0 win at Nuneaton in their latest pre-season fixture yesterday.

They got off to a flyer with three goals in the opening night minutes.

Lewis Walker opened the scoring with a well taken finish, before Jamie Sharman powerfully headed home from Sam Muggleton’s long-throw.

Lee Shaw tapped home from a corner after the home side had failed to deal with a corner.

Jamie Sharman made it three after powerfully heading home from Sam Muggleton’s long-throw.

Ify Ofoegbu came closest to a fourth ahead of the break with an attempted chip.

During the opening 45 minutes, Charlie Wakefield limped off to be replaced by Alex Render who himself was subbed with a cut above his left eye. Sam Wedgbury replaced Brandon Howard at the break, slotting in at right-back.

Another Muggleton low-trajectory bullet throw found Ofoegbu at the far post but his downward header was saved whilst Rowley and Shaw just couldn’t capitalise on Wedgbury’s cross from the right.

Luke Rawson came on for Walker, who was being watched by Dad Des, to partner Shaw up-front and Shaw soon created a chance through persistence and endeavour that the sub keeper saved. Angus drilled a box-edge effort wide as Nuneaton continued to work hard and seek some consolation.

Muggleton’s curled in cross forced a tip-over save just before first-year scholar Brandon Bradbury, 16, replaced Shaw.

Rawson evaded his marker on the right to pick out Rowley who, rather than shoot, spotted and found Ofoegbu in a better position who hit hard into the roof of the net with 15 minutes left.

Two minutes later, Rawson got the reward his earlier work deserved when he took advantage of some keeper hesitation to slot the ball into an empty net.
