The B2net hosts its first game of the season tonight.
John Sheridan’s men continue their pre-season build up when Championship side Coventry City make a rare visit to Chesterfield. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
Only once in the last 50 years have Chesterfield met the Sky Blues.
Gordon Milne’s Coventry visited Saltergate in the summer of 1974 for a friendly that the Sky Blues won 2-0 in a game that saw current Youth Team boss Dave Bentley make his Spireites debut.
Bentley picked up an injury that was to keep him out for the rest of the season.
Chesterfield are expected to start with a team that won’t be too dissimilar to the manager’s current thinking about his strongest side.
Although Sheridan still expects to bring in some new faces ahead of the League One kick off at Tranmere Rovers on August 6. Defender Simon Ford, excused duties at Macclesfield Town at the weekend due to a minor knee problem, is expected to feature whilst pre-season’s most promising name, Jordan Bowery, is hoping to continue his excellent run.
City beat Kettering Town 1-0 at the weekend, Gary McSheffrey scored the only goal. Previously they’ve beaten Hinckley Town (3-0) and drawn 2-2 with Nuneaton Town.
Former Spireites loan man Sammy Clingan is expected to get a rousing reception from the home fans as he returns to the club he had two spells at whilst a Wolves player.
