Chesterfield were beaten 2-0 at home by Preston North End tonight.

The club’s second League One game of the 2011-12 programme started off badly.

On 17 minutes, defender Clark Carlisle headed home at the B2net stadium, after decent set up play from Barry Nicholson.

Danny Whitaker and Drew Talbot put the pressure on goalie Iain Turner seemed sound in the visitors’ goal.

Former Barnsley striker Iain Hume was a pest to the home side as the Spireites tried to assert themselves on the game.

But Preston rubbed in their superiority on 70 minutes when Barry Nicholson found the back of the net with a headed goal from close in.

Mattis was booked in a bad night for the Derbyshire new boys.
