Chesterfield have signed experienced central defender Richard Wood from Rotherham United on an emergency three-month loan, which expires on January 23.
Wood, 30, has just completed a loan spell at Fleetwood Town and played in their 1-0 win at Barnsley on Saturday.
Spireites manager Dean Saunders is pleased to have landed Wood after working with him last season at Crawley. He said: “Richard is a good pro with a great attitude and he will provide more competition for places.
“There has been an imbalance in the squad since I got here because we have been desperately short of defenders. Richard can play on the left or right side of central defence and he will make the squad stronger.”
The Wakefield-born player is eligible to play in the FA Cup and there is a 24-hour recall clause in the agreement after 28 days.
Wood began his career at Sheffield Wednesday and has also played for Coventry City and Charlton Athletic.
