Spireites boss John Sheridan, fresh from signing a contract that will keep him at the B2net until the summer of 2015, has indicated he’s hoping to finalise his first recruit by the weekend.
Although the manager of last season’s League Two Champions refuses to name names, it’s expected to be Yeovil Town left back Nathan Smith, who’s already visited the club’s home and has been tipped to move North.
Sheridan will then turn his attention to fill the boots of goal getters Craig Davies and Deane Smalley, who have joined Barnsley and Oxford United respectively.
Crewe’s Clayton Donaldson and Derby’s ex Oldham man Chris Porter are the two favourites, though Donaldson has also been linked with Championship side Coventry.
Sheridan will also be looking for a second left sider having lost Scott Griffith and Ian Morris, who were only on loan last season, whilst Gregor Robertson’s achilles injury means he’ll miss the opening months of the season.
