The size and noise of the Chesterfield following at the Hive on the final day of the season did not go unnoticed by the men who now manage the Spireites.
Adrian Whitbread says the new Town management team, who were still in charge of Barnet on that day, were impressed by the visiting support, given their club’s already-confirmed League Two relegation.
So they couldn’t help but wonder what that support would look like if they were following a winning side in the National League.
The assistant manager revealed: “That was the one thing we said, they brought over 500 people to come see a team play on the last day of the season, already relegated.
“It costs a lot of money to travel down, but there was still a die hard 500 from Chesterfield cheering their team on and we were thinking if that’s what it’s like when they’ve been relegated, what’s it going to be like when we can turn around and put a successful team together.
“That was great to see.”
