Sheridan poised for new signings

John Sheridan will be looking to add to his table-topping squad this week.

Having secured Peterborough United left-back Scott Griffiths on loan until the end of the season following his successful spell in the autumn, Sheridan will be hoping to re-sign right-back Jack Hunt, who yesterday returned to Huddersfield Town after six months at Chesterfield.

The manager said: "We're trying to get Jack back. We're talking with Huddersfield at the moment. We want him to come, Jack wants to come so we'll try and sort it out. He gives you that burst of energy and enthusiasm.

"I want us to be strong. We've got lots of games coming up and one or two looked tired towards the end of the Southend game, so I'm going to bring someone else in as well. I'm just hoping for some positive news to come back, because it's important to have strength in depth to stay where we are.

"It'll be a case of people pushing each other. Some came in at Southend and did well so I've got some decisions to make for the Stevenage game. Everyone wants to play and they're all giving me a selection problem."

With Bury, Shrewsbury Town and Wycombe Wanderers all losing on Saturday and Port Vale and Rotherham United not playing until tonight, weekend results went as well as possible.

Sheridan commented: "Results went our way but as long as we keep winning that's all that matters. If we win every game until the end of the season, we'll be all right!"

On Saturday Chesterfield host Stevenage who beat top-flight Newcastle United in the FA Cup last time out.
