Former Spireites defender Reuben Hazell has joined Shrewsbury Town on a two year deal.

Having turned down an extension from Oldham, where he’d played under John Sheridan, his name had been linked to Chesterfield, predominantly as Sheridan has raided Boundary Park for several previous signings.

Another one time Spireite, Jonathan Douglas, has joined fellow League One side Brentford after quitting relegated Swindon Town. The midfielder, then on loan from Blackburn Rovers, scored in Chesterfield’s last day draw at Blackpool that ensured safety from relegation from League One in 2003.

Winger Kieran Djilali, who has been borrowed by Chesterfield from Crystal Palace in the last two seasons, has chosen not to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park so has become a free agent. Another ex loanee, Dominic Green, has been released by Peterborough. Spireites return to training next week with Sheridan still seeking four new faces.
