The man in charge of Chesterfield’s crisis remains optimistic as the club tries to avoid administration.

Company secretary Ashley Carson is the man steering the ship since the departure of Dave Allen as chairman.

And although cash is in short supply again this month, he’s optimistic.

“At the moment I’m trying to pull everything together, trying to get some finance together, although we’re still desperately short this month without a doubt,” he said.

“Things are at a critical stage but I still remain optimistic.

“The priority is not going into administration.”

The Derbyshire Times believes progress has been made in the negotiations between the club and four ex directors who are owed a combined £1.8m.

But no deal had been reached at the time of going to press.
