More time on sidelines for Spireites star

Chesterfield attacker Dean Morgan is likely to be out for another three weeks after injuring an ankle in the 4-1 win over Stockport County on New Year's Day.

The 27-year-old former Reading and MK Dons man had just returned from two separate groin injuries before picking up his latest problem in a block tackle. However the form of Deane Smalley, whose goal in the weekend win at Southend United was the most obvious output of his man-of-the-match performance, will ease the blow.

Boss John Sheridan will be looking to solve his right-back problem ahead of Saturday's home game against Stevenage. With Jack Hunt back at Huddersfield Town after his loan spell expired, Dan Gray away on loan at Macclesfield Town and borrowed man Kelvin Lomax out with an ankle problem, the Spireites are weak in that position.

Jamie Lowry could come into the reckoning 15 months after his last first-team appearance.

He has made a few appearances in the reserves but Chesterfield's management team would like him to complete a few more second-string games before his full-scale comeback.

Centre-back Simon Ford has played a few games in the position or the manager could ask left-back Scott Griffiths to fill in temporarily.

Graham Westley's Stevenage, conquerors of Newcastle United in the cup, have yet to beat any of the sides currently in the top half of League Two in this, their debut season in the Football League.
