IT was a day to remember for striker Leon Clarke who grabbed the first half-trick of his career in the win over Carlisle.

Clarke, after two goals in two games, was bidding to become only the second Spireite in 50 years to score in his first three club appearances and it took him just 127 seconds to emulate Dwayne Mattis,

Mendy used his body and speed to get away from Robson on the right. He made rapid ground and crossed for Westcarr. The striker was in an awkward position to shoot so squared for CLARKE to roll the ball home from inside the six yard box.

From yet another corner on 20 minutes, Carlisle levelled. Berrett’s delivery was punched skywards by Fleming and MILLER reacted quickest as it fell, to poke the ball home with the home fans nearby shouting for a foul on their keeper.

The goalfest continued on 27 minutes when CLARKE scored again, his header from Whitaker’s cross nestling just inside the post beyond Collin’s full length dive in what was shaping to be a memorable match.

CLARKE converted from a yard to register the first hat-trick of his career on 51 minutes.

Spireites earned a heap of breathing space on 65 minutes when a delightful Smith chip forward found the head of WESTCARR who flicked it beyond Collin to all but wrap up the points.

Clarke received a standing ovation as he was subbed on 89 minutes, Bowery coming on a couple of days after signing a new three year deal.
